Magazine Fashion Spread
The design brief was to create a two spread design with a front and back cover for a fashion and lifestyle magazine that targets savvy students and young professionals that are interested in the latest style and design.
The assigned Headline: The New (Fill in the Trend) or The Amazing (Fill in Name of Person). The DEK was based on your topic and the Byline was By Miranda Davenport
The header typography was chosen based on the stylistic serifs and it’s use of thicks and thins to be more bold, elegant, and eye-catching at the viewers first glance. For body copy text I went with a light Helvetica, because of its geometric and sans serif style to complement, but not distract from the images and header type and help with the ease of reading the article.
The colors chosen for this article were based on the imagery that was used and altered slightly for more modern earth tones. I wanted to use a lighter yellow as well as a darker golden yellow with a nicely contrasting blue. I primarily used these colors in very geometric forms as an accent to the existing type and photos that were in the layout.
With this being a fashion and lifestyle magazine I wanted some of the photos to resemble high end fashion while others could be more relatable to the viewers. I broke up the extensive amount of text with imagery spread over one or multiple pages to keep them interlaced and for the viewer to stay connected with the content.
